Joy in Suffering
In devos this morning I read a very important note on the verse
“Not only so, be we also rejoice in our sufferings, for we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” – Romans 5:3-4
Some, after reading my previous day’s entry may think that Christians are to take joy because of their sufferings. Wrong. We are to take joy in our sufferings, not because of them. We take joy because of God. He is with us, gives us the hope of heaven (and by this a firm, grounded meaning enabled by the Spirit, not a mere wish), and identity with Christ in life and to overcome all things.
