Confidence

Posted in my life, self discovery at 8:55 am by Bily Xiao

mmm. Confidence is a key character trait for me. Much of it stems from faith - hope in that which is unseen - an assuredness which carries peace. Of knowing who I am, my place in this world. Not fully, of course, but to an extent which instills confidence. To know I am weak in flesh but simultaneously made strong in Christ. My worthlessness and simultaneous worth in Christ.

Anyway that’s the mainspring of my confidence. But it certainly expresses itself in ways not so spiritual as well, pervading every facet of life. Confidence is pretty key. And it is definitely different from pride. Although ya… sometimes people mistake it for pride. And also, I must admit, sometimes leads to actual pride.

Chicken or the egg, I don’t know.
I believe/have confidence that I can change the world in some way. And I believe that everyone has that potential - if only they’d realize and seize it.

Can this confidence be part of the spiritual gift of faith described in 1 Cor. 12:9? Having that assurance that God will be there empower you and deliver you (through our submission to God) in every situation leads to such confidence. That’s my opinion.

As good as confidence is, we have to remain humble.

It’s not so much as the chicken before the egg thing, cause forsure - pride comes from over-confidence.

But be reminded that when you’re at the top of the world, to attribute everything you’ve accomplished back to God. To be able to say, “this was never me, it was all you God. You did everything!”

Becuase if your confidence does indeed stem from faith, then pride should not be given to yourself, but to God. For we do not boast in anything, but only boast in Christ alone.
