Inspirational Influence

Posted in Leadership, life purpose, self discovery at 6:22 pm by Bily Xiao

As God continues to help me understand who I am it consequently helps me to understand what I’m made to do in this world. One of the revelations developing recently applies both for my longer term vocation and my current day actions. The motif is inspiration and influence.

Obviously anyone–even the most sedate and numb of persons–when inspired will be moved deeply. That’s inherent in the definition of being inspired. But I have found that I am inspired by things both deeply and frequently. Both the depth and frequency grows and, moreover, I find the growing desire to expose myself to things likely to inspire.

So if Leadership is my gift: Inspiration is my style. Well, at least it is a major part of it.

The result is the aim to live an all around good life worthy enough to inspire others, underscored by the desire to affect those influenced to a) take personal action and b) be of further inspirational influence.

In such a way my efforts are not alone and the fruits of labor are multiplied exponentially.

Not for me; but for you. For your good; and what’s good is God. — Yes, I want to be a hero.

Leadership Dualities

Very true… the two sides of excellent leadership.

Professional Will
1) Creates superb results, a clear catalyst in the transition from good to great.
2) Demonstrates an unwavering resolve to do whatever must be done to produce the best long-term results, no matter how difficult.
3) Sets the standard of building an enduring great company; will settle for nothing less.
4) Looks in the mirror, not out the window, to apportion responsibility for poor results, never blaming other people, external factors, or bad luck.

Personal Humility
1) Demonstrates a compelling modesty, shunning public adulation; never boastful.
2) Acts with quiet, calm determination; relies principally on inspired standards, not inspiring charisma, to motivate.
3) Channels ambition into the company, not the self; sets up successors for even greater success in the next generation.
4) Looks out the window, not in the mirror, to apportion credit for the success of the company—to other people, external factors, and good luck.

Uncle Ben was rather on the dot with: “with great power comes great responsibility.”

He married a wise woman: Aunt May spoke something of much encouragement to me as well. When Peter Parker was just about set to retire from his Spiderman role he went to see his Aunt. Little Henry from across the road is around and asks Peter where Spidey had gone. Aunt May comments. I’m rather uncomfortable with the wording: I’m not at all for personal pride, self-achievement and self-generated worth. But that aside, I found the main message to be very poignant…
