Winter Retreat

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:03 pm by PlayerWon

Praise God for a wonderful winter retreat. UW CCFers went to Circle Square Ranch in Brantford this past weekend. We learned by Bible study and by action to become a better community with visible unity. Coming out of a lonely term in Stratford it was very refreshing to be with brothers and sisters again. More than the insane fun, it was a very encouraging and inspiring time. Sharing time was great with many models of leadership challenging us. The worship team did a wonderful job leading us all into both quiet worship and loud praise to God. As Rebecca noted, it wasn’t like a typical retreat/camp where people were unenthusiastic coming in, spiritually high going out and subsequently snuffed out. People were enthusiastic coming in with clear desires for God and community. It wasn’t mere happiness, it was clear joy. I hope we will all carry the lessons we’ve learned and follow through with the challenges we’ve received this past weekend.

1 Peter

Here are some highlights from my devo readings this morning from 1 Peter.

Desire
2:2
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Identifying with Christ
2:19
For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it?

Beauty in Women
3:4
Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

My Philosophy
3:13-14
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.

Readiness
3:15
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience [...]

Hospitality
4:9-10
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.

Loving and Disciplined Tongue
4:11
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God.
